Royal Visit to Hogwarts

Royal Visit

We were delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry to the Studio Tour on 26th April 2013.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling joined the royal visitors as they explored the sets of the world’s most successful film series. They were accompanied by spellbound children and parents connected to the special visitors’ many supported charities.

Their Royal Highnesses stepped on to the flagstones of the Great Hall where The Duchess seized the chance to measure up to the costume of half-giant Rubeus Hagrid.

Wands were raised for The Duke and Duchess as they took a wand combat lesson in the Gryffindor common room, using choreography from the Harry Potter film series. Utilising their new skills, The Duke and Duchess then sparred with each other.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry was surprised to see carrots chopping themselves in the Weasley kitchen, home to a number of household special effects including a self-ironing iron and self-washing frying pan.

Their Royal Highnesses were reunited in Diagon Alley for a special effects demonstration. They were able to cast a spell by pointing their wands which made the sign above Potage’s Cauldron Shop bang and flash as if by magic.

Later, in our wand room – an area dedicated to the thousands of talented British cast and crew who worked on the film series – our special guests were presented with their very own wands, hand-carved by Head Prop Maker Pierre Bohanna.
