Family Dinner in the Great Hall

Bring Your Family To Christmas Dinner at Hogwarts

Friday 8th December 2023

For the first time, children are invited to enjoy a delicious Christmas dinner with their families in the Great Hall this Christmas.

This event is now sold out

Don your matching Christmas sweaters and arrive in the lobby for a prosecco or sparkling elderflower drink and canapés reception.

The red carpet will be rolled out to all Hogwarts students and your families as you enter the Great Hall, where you will sit at round tables in the authentic set, dressed for Christmas as seen in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. A Christmas cracker will be provided on each place setting, giving adults a chance to share their terrible Christmas dinner jokes, before digging into a delicious two-course dinner.

During your exclusive after-hours time in the Studio Tour, explore how green fabric is used to become invisible onscreen using the Invisibility Cloak that Harry Potter receives for Christmas. Or spot the hand-drawn Christmas cards the cast and crew made during filming which are still used to decorate the sets for Christmas at the Studio Tour.

A misting drink awaits you at the Potions Classroom before you enter a dark Forbidden Forest covered in snow. Pick out one perfect souvenir gift from the Christmas shop at the end of the forest before you stop at Platform 9 ¾ to enjoy a selection of dessert canapés and drink in front of the Hogwarts Express locomotive train.

A refreshing Butterbeer will be served in a souvenir tankard in the Backlot Café as you explore the outdoor sets in the Backlot before you walk up the wizarding high street – Diagon Alley. Learn how three various materials were used by filmmakers to cover the sets with snow that never melts, glistens under the camera lights, and crunches well enough to look and sound convincing on screen.

You can also discover how the magnificent Hogwarts Castle model used in the films was meticulously covered in snow during filming, a process still used today. Each year during the Hogwarts in the Snow feature, the same team are known to hide a snowman on the model which only the most keen-eyed among you will locate.

To top the night off, like Neville Longbottom, you too can dance your shoes off with a magical disco under the belly of the Ukrainian Ironbelly Dragon in the Lobby. All Hogwarts students will depart home for the holidays with a bag* filled with wizarding world goodies.
