Dumbledore’s Office

Visit Dumbledore’s Office

Whilst designing Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Stuart Craig and his team set no limits on what was possible, featuring turrets and towers that would be impossible to construct structurally. The design team even went as far as to detail where each room would be located within the castle, deciding that Dumbledore’s office would be found in Hogwarts’ tallest tower.

Students of Hogwarts, called to see Professor Dumbledore, would enter by way of a moving stone staircase, which could only be revealed from behind a grand gargoyle by using the correct password.

On and Off-Screen Magic

During filming, Dumbledore’s office consisted of not one but three circular rooms, with each room separated by removable ‘wild walls’, allowing cameras to film from various angles. The walls of Dumbledore’s office are decorated with portraits of previous headteachers, and magnificent glass-fronted bookcases display an array of magical artefacts.

Whilst exploring the set at the Studio Tour, make sure to look out for Fawkes, Dumbledore’s loyal Phoenix, and the Sorting Hat, used to organise Hogwarts students into the four Hogwarts houses. The iconic Sword of Gryffindor may even present itself to you, if you find yourself in need of it.
