Platform 9 ¾

Transport Yourself to Platform 9 ¾

A gateway between the Muggle and wizarding world, Platform 9 ¾ is famously known to be the magnificent train platform where students can make their way to Hogwarts.

Most of the scenes featuring the famous platform were shot at King’s Cross Station, a location which now holds sentimental value for Harry Potter fans around the globe. The station, and Platform 9 ¾, provide the background for the very first shot captured for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, and then, ten years later, for the last shot of the entire series in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

Embark on an Enchanting Journey

To access the platform, Hogwarts students must walk or run directly into the barrier dividing platforms nine and ten. Whilst there’s no specific reason why the number nine and three-quarters was chosen, it was important that the Hogwarts Express was located between two Muggle platforms. We can’t help but wonder whether there might be other hidden platforms at King’s Cross Station, although we wouldn’t recommend running into any of the walls to find out!

Instead, why not have your photo taken with one of the recognisable luggage trollies, featured in the film series? There are photo opportunities, both at King’s Cross Station and here at the Studio Tour, where fans can imagine they’re about to embark on their own mystical journey aboard the Hogwarts Express!

All Aboard the Hogwarts Express!

Visiting the Studio Tour, you’ll be able step inside the Hogwarts Express for yourself, as part of the station platform, complete with the track and train, was recreated on a soundstage here at Leavesden during the filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows–Part 2.

An interior carriage was also built at the studios for all the scenes that take place inside the train, including the iconic moment where Harry meets Ron and Hermione for the first time. The carriages were built in front of a green or blue screen so that the Visual Effects Team could create moving backdrops like hopping Chocolate Frogs and flying Dementors.
